Kulak Earns Master’s Degree

College Graduates Devon Boehnke’s grandson, Dana and Darrell Kulak’s son; Elton Kulak graduated this past week from the University of Texas with a Masters’ degree in business analytics. Dana and Darrell drove Devon up to Dallas for the graduation ceremony.

St. Mark’s Doris Klesel is 2022 Dan Wilford Award Winner

St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC) is proud to announce Doris Klesel, RN, OR Circulator Nurse, as this year’s winner of the hospital’s Dan Wilford Award for Compassion and Community Service. The announcement was made at an employee reception during National Hospital Week that also included some surprise family guests.

Local A&M Kingsville Graduates

Graduates from Texas A&M University-Kingsville walked the stage Friday, May 13, in two commencement ceremonies held outdoors at Javelina Stadium. Prospective graduates from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education and Human Performance graduated at 10 a.m.

Community Volunteer Fair June 12

The City of La Grange’s Office of Community Development is partnering with the Fayette Community Foundation to host the 1st Annual Community Volunteer Fair. The Fair will be held on Sunday, June 12 from 2-4 p.m.

Hostyn and Plum Scholarship Winners

A total of $18,100 in scholarships were presented on Sunday, May 15 to parishioners of Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish - Hostyn and Sts. Peter and Paul Parish - Plum by Father Felix Twumasi. Pictured are (front, from left): Wyatt Wick, Katelyn Bernsen, Ella Wick, Chloe Ripper, Sienna Davidson, (back) Mason Muras, Austin Wick, Justin Faldyn, Father Felix, Tyler Johnson, Jereld Brothers, and Becca Heinrich. Not pictured were Chelsea Brothers, Megan Brothers, Missy Muras, Cassie Redding and Bryssa Rios. The scholarships were made possible from the money raised at the monthly scholarship breakfasts at Hostyn and the annual fish fry dinner sponsored by the Plum parishioners.

La Grange’s Emma Coltrain Wins KayCan ‘Live Like Kayla’ Scholarship

La Grange High School senior Emma Coltrain has been selected as a recepient of a Kay-Can “Live Like Kayla” scholarship, which was established in the memory of the late Tomball High School and University of Texas student Kayla Cannon, a determined, competitive, Jesusloving beautiful soul. She set her goals high and exceeded them. Her license plate was pink and said it all - KAYCAN, for KAYla CANnon could accomplish anything. In her memory, to help others accomplish their goals and find their purpose, KAYCAN was formed. It is with joy KAYCAN recognizes the heart and mind of Emma Coltrain and it is a compliment to see her live.like.kayla!

Local Smith-McMillan DAR Chapter Awards Scholarships

Three area high school seniors were awarded scholarships from the Smith-McMillan Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The very first Shirley K. Pyburn Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Grant Adamcik, a student at La Grange High School. Grant will attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Pre-Med with interest in nutrition and cardiovascular research. Two $1,000 Smith-McMillan Chapter, NSDAR, Scholarships were awarded to Cole Stork, a student at La Grange High School and Laura Beth James, a student at Flatonia High School. Cole Stork will attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Civil Engineering. Laura Beth James will attend Texas A&M University and major in Agricultural Economics with interest in becoming an agricultural attorney.
