Colorado County Wildife Management Association Banquet Slated March 16

The Colorado County Wildlife Management Association’s (CCWMA) Banquet is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Columbus Hall in Columbus. There is no cost to attend. Meal tickets will be available for purchase for a barbecue meal at 6 p.m. with free soft drinks and beer while it lasts.

This year’s main speaker is Blaise Korzekwa, TPWD Whitetail Deer Program Leader, on the topic of “Does culling actually improve antler quality?” Aaron Summrall will provide an introduction to the Pig Brig Trapping System for feral hog control.

Boehnke Brothers Celebrate Birthdays

The end of February is a very festive time of year when the Boehnke brothers, Devon and Harold, celebrate their birthdays. Devon was the first with a birthday and was surprised with dinner out in Smithville at La Cabana where he was met by a few friends and his brother Harold for a good meal and loads of talking and laughing along with a cake. He was sung “Happy Birthday” twice just to be sure he got the message to have a good 84th birthday.

Farmer’s Market Saturday in Winchester

The first Farmer’s Market for 2024 will be held March 9 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Zilss Hall in Winchester. Vendors may sign up on site for a $10 fee. Several individuals will be having garage sales in the community also. Please stop by.

KJZT St. Anne’s Society Meets

The meeting of the KJZT St. Anne’s Society No. 10 was called to order at 1 p.m. on Feb. 20 at St. John’s Recreation Hall. President Mary Jane Toddy opened the meeting with prayers for all living members and their families and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 9 members present.

Lots Happening in Fayetteville

F “The Fayette County Record had reported the February sales tax numbers for Fayetteville being up 85%, but that is because of the first, what is termed a ‘non-ordinary event,’ that occurred in February 2023,” stated City Councilman Cade Burks. “The next few months will begin showing Fayetteville down by a large percentage, and on an annual basis, 2024 will be down by approximately 45% because of the second non-ordinary event in March/ April 2023.

Consumer Protection Week is March 3-9

Fayette Electric Cooperative is joining Utilities United Against Scams in supporting the Federal Trade Commission’s annual National Consumer Protection Week. Utility impostor scammers pretend to represent electric, natural gas, water, and sewer utilities to steal customers’ money and personal information. Members who suspect they have been contacted by a scammer should alert Fayette Electric Cooperative and their local law enforcement.
