City Council 

The next City Council meeting is this Monday at 7 p.m. in the City offices. City Council meetings are held every third Monday of the month.

74th Annual Bazaar 

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger will host their 74th Annual Bazaar on Sunday, Aug. 25. Online bidding for auction items will begin this Friday, Aug. 16 and end on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.

It doesn’t have to be a knitted baby blanket or a silk lace shawl to win a blue ribbon at the Fayette County Fair. A youngster’s crocheted origami animals won prizes in the Fair’s Needlework Division last year.

Shelter Has Over 100 Animals In Care

As of Aug. 9, the total intake for 2024 for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1042: 449 dogs and 593 cats in need. As of Aug. 9, the shelter has 135 animals in care: 72 dogs/63 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

St. Mary’s Church Picnic Sunday, Aug. 25

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger will host their 74th annual bazaar on Sunday, Aug 25. There will be a drive through and dine in meal starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall, consisting of fried chicken and sausage and all the trimmings for $15. There will also be a silent and live auction, along with a variety booth and other fun games and activities. Live music will be provided by The Bandits. A prize drawing for a $5,000 gift card plus 43 other prizes will be held. Tickets are available at St. John’s/St. Mary’s Parish office, any St.

Bridges Now Open in Muldoon

Just after writing the last column two of the bridges under construction opened up for traffic. The bridges on FM 154 and Old Smithville South are open to traffic with some construction still finishing up. This is great news for area residents. Especially to those who are on the bus routes.
