The annual Holy Cross Lutheran Church picnic will be held Sunday, Sept. 1 at the picnic grounds.

Barbecue brisket and pork will be sold by the pound, chickens are sold individually. Meat sales at the pit begin at 9:30 a.m. The ladies are taking pre-orders for sides of noodles, beans, potato salad and coleslaw. Sides are $4 each and can be pre-ordered by calling the church office at (979) 242-3333.

They will also have their country store open beginning at 9 a.m. selling lots of great home canned items, RADA cutlery and baked goods. The ladies silent auction is from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Children’s activities begin at 11 a.m. Hamburgers and nachos are available beginning at 4 p.m. Live music by Mark Gruetzner is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and The Lost Cause Band will play from 2-5:30 p.m., the live auction begins at 5:30 p.m.

If you have an auction item you would like to donate, it is greatly appreciated. This year all auction items must be on the list by noon Friday, Aug. 30 to be included in the live auction.

Proceeds for this years picnic will be half to the Parochial School Tuition Assistance Fund and half to the picnic fund to be used for future projects. Make plans to attend this fun day.

Public Hearing 

A public hearing is scheduled in commissioners court regarding the Staccato Battery Storage Project in Warda. This will be held on Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. The location for the meeting is The Fayette Agrilife Building on 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange.

27th Fried Chicken Dinner 

The St. Paul Lutheran Adult Fellowship in Serbin will have their 27th annual fried chicken dinner on Sunmade

day, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m.12 p.m. at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Preorders are preferred, all to-go plates will be sold for $15. Proceeds will go towards future church/ school projects. Tickets can be ordered by calling (979) 5407154. Family Fun Night

Family Fun Night in Warda will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 at the church picnic grounds. This will be an evening of games, fun, and lots of laughs. There will also be an Ice Cream Freeze Off-a home ice cream competition. Get those ice cream machines geared up for your chance to win “The Golden Scoop” and major bragging rights. Wendish Fest 

Mark your calendars for the Wendish Fest at Serbin to be held on Sunday, Sept. 22. More details to come.

Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda will begin onAug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the family room. This will be a study on 1st and 2nd Kings. The 12-week class will follow King Solomon’s reign and fall, and the captivity of both Israel and Judah. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Shiner 9-3. They play Weimar at 6 p.m. Aug. 11.

Blazing Saddles Bike Race Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda will be hosting “Blazing Saddles” a six-hour bike race starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. The team or solo rider with the most laps in six hours wins. The Ranch has 8.9 miles of bike riding trails that are open every day from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. They also offer primitive camping spots. Sabbath House 

Tejas Camp and Retreat Center is constructing a Sabbath House, a place for people in ministry to rest and pray. Forms are set and concrete will be poured soon. In a few weeks, volunteers will come and begin the framing. Visit www.mytejas.org to keep up with all the latest news and events.

Game Day at Holy Cross The next Game Day at Holy Cross will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, from noon-2 p.m. A light lunch is served, there is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered. Sewing Circle

The Sewing Circle meets every Thursday in the old parish hall at the Holy Cross Church from 9 a.m.-noon. They average making 80-100 quilts a year and no experience is necessary to join this fun group. Everyone is welcome. Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Sunday, Aug. 18 the Ladies Aid will collect a door offering for school supplies for St. Paul Lutheran in Serbin.

Sunday School Promotion Sunday will be held Aug. 25.

The Youth Group will meet Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. for an informational meeting regarding the National Youth Gathering. This is for youth in 8th grade through high school. NYG is July 19-23, 2025.

GEMS (Girls Embracing Mission Service) is for girls 5th grade through high school. They will meet Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross to discuss service projects options for the coming months and have an ice cream social.

The midweek morning Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda is Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Faith Lutheran High School There are currently 23 students registered. If you are interested in receiving enrollment registration materials please contact the school at (979) 242-2889 or visit their website at: www.flhstx.org The first day of school was Wednesday August 14. Everyone is invited to join a special worship service on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. as FLHS officially opens their eighth academic year. The service will be held at Holy Cross and led by association Pastors. An offering will be collected to support the FLHS Scholarship Fund. Potluck dessert and punch reception will follow.

Faculty and students are preparing for their annual retreat to Camp Lone Star on Aug. 29-30.

Save the date for Faith Lutheran High Schools annual Octoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 26. The “Battle of the Vines” and “Battle of the Brew” are back. Start planning your brews now. There will be traditional German food, domino tournament, auction, cornhole tournament, music, kids games, fellowship and lots of fun.
