Adopt Me

DOPTABLE Why are so many bully breeds brought to the shelter? Why do they stay here so long? Is getting a bully breed a status symbol? Does the novelty wear off? Did they have several litters? Do people decide to keep a puppy and start the cycle over? It’s heart wrenching for the animal care advocate for these dogs as they become statistics. Please visit the shelter today and let us introduce you to some bullies in need of a miracle.

Learning to Cook

The four stepchildren sat around the dining table looking like hungry baby birds, their beaks open, waiting on mama to come bring the evening meal, while I stood in the kitchen wondering if I could brown hamburger meat to put into the Hamburger Helper I was going to serve. My first step into stepparenting was requiring me to cook for these kids ranging in ages from 12 to 17.

Ramjohns Honored

The La Grange Noon Lions Club honored Lion Deokie Ramjohn and her late husband Lion David Ramjohn (both pictured here) for their service to the club at their meeting on Sept. 5. Both were very active leaders in the organization over the past several years and together ran Algeternal Technologies. David Ramjohn died April 22 of this year. Deokie is the Chair of the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce but is moving to be closer to family.

Senior Connections Has Busy September

Our schedule for the week of Sept. 23, we will start the day in Schulenburg at 9 a.m. for coffee and conversation and dominos. We have a cabinet with many other games that friends can enjoy. Feel free to share your own favorite game. For our home-cooked meal, we will enjoy one of my favorites: Connie Koopman Catering’s beef tips with rice, vegetables, salad, and dessert. Following our meal, our Lunch and Learn program will be about preventative medicine brought to us by Dr. Hudson with Tejas Clinic in La Grange.
