Camp Invention Bringing STEM Fun to La Grange Elementary

Camp Invention, a nationally recognized, nonprofit summer enrichment camp program, is coming to La Grange Elementary School the week of June 8. A program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Camp Invention challenges children in grades K-6 to tap into their natural curiosity and use their creativity to solve problems.

RT-C Education Foundation Receives Honorary Chapter FFA Degree

OP News The Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation was very surprised and honored at the annual RT-C FFA Banquet on May 19 with an Honorary Chapter FFA Degree. This Honorary Degree is a prestigious recognition awarded by local FFA chapters to farmers, school administrators, chapter advisors, and community members who have rendered outstanding service to agricultural education and the FFA program.

The 89th Annual Tomato Festival returns to the city of Ellinger May 29-31, bringing a full weekend of food, music, competition, and small-town tradition. My favorite theme when writing for the Record is noting that which makes our community so special. Let’s just be frank: you’re not gonna find James Dick’s music of Festival Hill or the Bugle Boy or the Round Top experience in other rural locales. Not to mention our Casino Hall or the world-class Quilt Museum. And one seldom mentioned asset but clearly should be: the first-class archives department of our local library.

Amazing Live Oaks

Live oak trees are remarkably resilient. A reader from Ammannsville came by the office last week to talk to me about live oaks.
A reader from Ammannsville shared with me this photo of a live oak tree on his property. The gentleman said he believes the tree fell down during the great hurricane of 1900. It survived and has been growing on its side ever since.
