Fayetteville Honors Veterans at Memorial Day Service
Fayetteville held its Memorial Day service on Monday, May 25, with a good crowd in attendance including both candidates for Fayette County Judge, Josh Vandever and Josh Homan. Alvin Minarcik and musicians led the audience in singing “God Bless America” and the armed forces melodies. State Senator Lois Kolkhorst delivered a speech about patriotism in our communities. American legion Auxiliary member Paula Urban read the poem “In Flanders Fields,” and the auxiliary also presented the POW\\MIA table ceremony. A roll call of local veterans who have passed this year was then read. The assembled veterans conducted military honors with the 13 folds of the flag, a gun salute and Taps. Ending the program, Aaron Gross, a Son of the American Legion sang “Already Home” and “Folded Flag.”
