Shorthorns End Season Winless in Football

The Schulenburg football season came to an end Saturday in Thrall with a 38-14 loss to the Tigers. The loss means the Shorthorns are 0-10 for the first time since the 1959 season.

Flatonia Wins District Title

The Flatonia Bulldogs are district champs! With their eighth consecutive victory Friday, a 49-17 beat down of Holland, the Bulldogs clinched the District 13-2A title. It is the first football district title for the Bulldogs since the 2016 team, which went four rounds deep in the playoffs.

Two County Teams Advance, Two Eliminated

In an epic area round playoff match Saturday in Brenham the Schulenburg volleyball team outlasted Thorndale in a fivesetter thriller. The Lady Horns won the odd-numbers sets while Thorndale grabbed the even-numbered ones before Schulenburg prevailed 15-12 in the decisive fifth set.

Stokes Wins For Second Consecutive Week

Mattress Mack may have won $75 million betting on the Astros, but La Grange’s Travis Stokes is on quite a roll of his own. For the second consecutive week the 2021 La Grange High School grad won our reader pick it contest. Last week his tiebreaker prediction beat seven other perfect 10-0 ballots. This time, before a week of tough college picks, he turned in the only perfect ballot, beating out 71 other entries. Even with the Thursday games, deadline is still 5 p.m. Friday. The contest will continue as long as the Leps are in the playoffs.
