In their varsity home opener Tuesday, the La Grange baseball team bashed the Austin Waves 12-2 Tuesday. Bradyn Prasek was the starting pitcher and took a shutout into the fifth inning, striking out five.

Hundreds of athletes competed in La Grange Thursday as the Leopard Relays were held. The La Grange girls finished first in the varsity standings out of nine teams.

The La Grange softball team went 6-1 at the Seguin Tourney Thursday through Saturday, beating Pearsall 5-2, Edinburg North 8-1, Clemens 4-3, Medina Valley 5-1 and the Lady Hawks 5-0 before falling to Andrews 7-2. The Lady Leps (8-6) host Nixon Smiley Tuesday.

The Fayetteville basketball team lost in the state quarterfinals Friday in Humble 7970 to Brookeland. This was a rematch of last year’s state quarterfinal, which was won by Fayetteville, but this time the Wildcats (29-7) prevailed and they advance to face Perrin-Whitt in the 1A semis.

La Grange native Austen Digs made it to the podium as a freshman Saturday in the 200 meters at the Big 12 Conference Indoor meet at Texas Tech University. He placed 6th in the 200 meters with a time of 21.10. The top eight that made it to the finals all went to the podium and received a medal. Last year the Fayetteville Lions made it to the state basketball semifinals for the first time in 81 years. This year’s Lions are in the midst of a 17-game win streak and one win away from getting back to the state semifinals.

The Fayetteville Lions boys basketball team overcame an early deficit to rally for a 74-66 victory over Wells in the regional semifinals Tuesday night in Madisonville. Jack Schley led the Lions with 21 points. Easton Jaeger scored 12, Mason Fenhaus had 11, Lawson Fritsch and Brody Dooley each had eight, Kole Schmitt had seven and Chance Konvicka scored six.
