Flatonia ISD will be honoring their 1985 volleyball team that 40 years ago achieved a State Championship. There will be two recognitions: after the Lady Dogs Varsity volleyball game verses Ganado at approximately 5:45 p.m.
The Flatonia football team continued their dramatic improvement this season with a 42-13 victory over Three Rivers Friday at home. Last year the Bulldogs lost to Three Rivers by 11 amidst a 1-9 season.
The Schulenburg football team dropped its record to 1-3 with a 65-18 loss at Brazos Consolidated Friday. Brazos (4-0) amassed 565 total yards of offense in this one, while the Shorthorns were limited to 264 yards.
It what very well may have been a school record for points in a quarter, La Grange scored 41 points in the first 12 minutes of Friday’s homecoming game against Taylor. Then the Leps cruised to a 55-18 victory as La Grange improved to 3-1 this season.
Of Note: Don’t be fooled by the records, this is a tough matchup for the Bulldogs. Three Rivers lost to Nixon-Smiley by just four points two weeks ago, while Flatonia lost to Nixon-Smiley last week by 30 points, 47-17.
Greenli Van Zandt was a standout volleyball player last year in Flatonia, but moved to Schulenburg this season. She stepped right in and made an immediate impact for the Lady Horns, but she’s taken it to another level recently.
