La Grange’s Football Season Comes to An End in Loss to Smithville

In a game La Grange needed to win to make the playoffs, the Leps turned the ball over six times and lost to Smithville 31-13 in the regular season finale at Leopard Stadium. The Tigers ended up outgaining La Grange by just sixteen yards (358 to 342) but it was those six turnovers (four interceptions, three of which were snagged by Smithville’s Charles Hodge, and two fumbles) that proved to be the difference.

LG Subvarsity Football

Last Thursday the La Grange Middle School 8th grade football team traveled to Giddings to take on the Buffalos. The exciting game started off on the first play from scrimmage with Kameron Leonard going 65 yards off the right edge for the Touchdown. The 2 point conversion was added on a pass from Max Dixon to Leonard. The Buffalos answered with a touchdown and 2 pt. conversion of their own. The remainder of the quarter was a defensive struggle resulting in a halftime score of 8-8. Giddings began the 2nd half with a scoring drive that occupied all but 34 seconds of the Quarter. However, that is all the Leopards needed as Elijah Haardt had 2 runs totalling 65 yards and a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed by near inches. With 1:54 left in the game and down by a score of 22-14, the Leopards drove down the field on the strength of two passes from Dixon to Haardt. The following play, a pass from Dixon to Leonard, resulted in a La Grange Touchdown and was followed by a 2 pt. run by Haardt to bring the score to 22-22. The Leopards executed a successful onside kick with :56 seconds remaining, but it was called back due to an offsides call. Giddings recovered the second try. The next two plays resulted in fumbled quarterback center exchanges that Giddings recovered. On the subsequent 3rd down play Haardt picks off the Buffalo quarterback. Down to the final 8 seconds and using both their timeouts the Leopards drop the next two passes resulting in a 22-22 tie.
