Vitek Hitting .700 This Postseason to Earn County Player of Week Honors

Fayetteville baseball player Parker Vitek gets it done on the mound and also at the plate for the Lions. Vitek carries an insanely high batting average of .700 throughout the playoffs. “Parker’s really come through the last couple weeks as far as getting our offense going”, said Fayetteville head baseball coach Clint Jaeger. “It’s coming from the middle of the lineup, so he’s kind of getting things going in the bottom of the order. Finishing the job. Especially against Bartlett that first game, he got us going because we were kind of stagnant. He did a really good job. Pitching, he’s improved a lot this year. We count on him a lot doing that too. We look for that to continue.” Vitek’s consistency with his arm and bat has given him the nod for this edition’s Player of the Week.

Adding to the Legacy

This week, Schulenburg High School’s 70-year-old coach Richard Hoogendoorn added a visual reminder in the locker room of his team’s run to the state semifinals earlier this year with a basketball painted in the team’s honor. Several such basketballs are already part of the locker room recalling teams Hoogendoorn has coached during a career that includes more than 400 wins at SHS (see below) and more than 800 wins overall.
