The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team survived a best of three series vs. the Ganado Indians this past weekend to clinch a birth in the 2024 UIL State Tournament for Class 2A.

Last week the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) held its 2024 State Convention. There were many important items of business that took place but the most exciting for Republicans in Fayette County was that one of our own will be attending the Republican National Convention as an Alternate. Kathryn Geesaman of Flatonia will represent Fayette County and the entire Congressional District 10 at the Republican National Convention July 15–18, 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “We are proud that Kathryn will be representing our Congressional District because she will do so with honesty, integrity, and a true sense of patriotism,” said Deborah Frank, Out-going Fayette County Republican Party Chairman The 2024 Republican Party of Texas State convention was held in San Antonio May 23 - 25. It was a very busy three-day convention with two Senate District caucuses, two Congressional District caucuses, and four general sessions. Fayette County was represented by our full contingent of 17 delegates: Deborah Frank, Michael Schlabach, David Stall, Linda Stall, Kimberley Rutledge, Kathryn Geesaman, Dennis Geesaman, Cindy Wingo, Patsy Parker, Jeff Parker, Barbara Appelt, Cindy Rodibaugh, Scott Rodibaugh, Glenn Altwein, Carmel Atwood, Craig Moreau, and Steven Bowman. The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange hosted a visit by Miloslav Stašek, the Czech Ambassador to the United States, on Saturday, May 25. Stašek brought along a delegation of Czech diplomats and education officials who are working to establish ties with Texas businesses and universities.

Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum, located at 275 W. Fairgrounds Rd., La Grange, Texas within the Czech Village, experienced a successful second annual “Happy Music for Happy People” Open House and Event. Over one hundred area residents and visitors from as far as Nebraska toured the museum The event was held in conjunction with the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center’s (TCHCC) Slavnost “May Fest” celebration which was also a big success.

On the hottest day of the year so far, 25 University of Texas students arrived at the Red & White Inn in Fayetteville on the first stop of a 4,000-plus mile bike ride to Alaska. The group, which raises money for research and to spread cancer awareness, had previously reached out to Blackbird Lodging to facilitate a place where the team could eat and spend the night. Joan and Jerry Herring were happy to donate the evening, and as usual the community turned out to make the night memorable for the bicyclists.
