The Schulenburg football team almost pulled off a huge upset over No. 3-ranked Burton Friday on Homecoming night for the Shorthorns. But the Panthers (3-0) escaped by scoring two late touchdowns as part of a 30-point fourth quarter surge. Schulenburg (0-3) used a 66-yard pass from Tyler Ryba to Kenny Schramek (the duo’s third passing score of the game) to tie the game at 41-41 with just 3:04 left in the contest. But Burton’s Tyrone Gilmon ran for a go-ahead touchdown with 1;01 left and then intercepted a pass and returned it 48 yards for an insurance score with just 36 seconds left in the game. Schulenburg’s Ryba ran for two touchdowns to go with those three touchdown passes but it was not enough.
