Stokes Wins $200 Football Jackpot

Travis Stokes was the winner in last week’s reader football pick ‘em contest, with his tiebreaker score prediction beating out seven other people who turned in perfect ballots. Travis graduated from LHS this spring (he was a varsity football player for the Leps) and is a freshman at Texas A&M-Corpus, so his mom Michele Stokes accepted the prize money from Johnny Oviedo of Oviedo Auto Group, which sponsors the contest. Our football contest will continue this season as long as the Leps stay in the playoffs. * The deadline for this week’s pick ‘em contest is still 5 p.m. Friday even though the La Grange game was moved up to Thursday.

C.J. Davis Sprints to Athlete of the Week Honors

La Grange senior running back C.J. Davis had a night to remember in the Leopards’ third consecutive win. In last Friday’s 50-18 victory against Gonzales, Davis rushed for a career-high 150 yards to go along with two rushing touchdowns. He also added an 80-yard kick off return for a touchdown. “He’s a kid that we know has had that kind of ability,” said La Grange head football coach Matt Kates. “It’s kind of like he and Jakobe are switching games, then Jaden’s in the mix too in a big way, so it’s pretty awesome to have that many bullets. Hard work pays off and he’s done a heck of a job of biding his time. When he got an opportunity the other night, he cashed in on it. Hopefully we get a few more of those in him and see how long we can take this thing.” Davis’ memorable night has landed him the spot for this edition’s Player of the Week.

RT-C & Fayetteville Players Raise Money for Woman Battling Cancer

The Round Top-Carmine and Fayetteville volleyball teams had their Dig Pink game during their tiebreaker match this past Saturday at Blinn. The teams honored Krista Gamble, spouse of Blinn head volleyball coach Terry Gamble. The teams presented Mrs. Gamble with a bouquet of flowers and donated $630 in proceeds from the event in her honor to the Side Out Foundation. We continue to support Mrs. Gamble during her current battle against breast cancer. Both ISD’s would like to thank everyone that contributed to the donation in her honor. Pictured are both teams presenting Mrs. Gamble with her flowers.
