Weimar Edges Winless Schulenburg 12-7
In a battle to stay out of the District 13-2A cellar, Weimar beat Schulenburg 12-7 in the annual battle of Interstate 10 rivals. This was the first district win of the season for the Wildcats who improve to 1-4 in district play and 3-6 overall. Meanwhile, Schulenburg stays winless at 0-8, though this was their closest brush with victory this season. The Shorthorns led in this one after a John Davis 10 yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Weimar pulled to within 7-6 after a Wyatt Lacina touchdown run later in that quarter but the Wildcats failed on a two-point conversion. So the Shorthorns held that 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter until Weimar’s Brady Henke scored a go-ahead touchdown with 11:41 left in the game.
Lacina led the Wildcats in rushing with 75 yards. Schulenburg’s Tyler Ryba had a teamhigh 81 yards rushing.
The Shorthorns lost three turnovers. Schulenburg returns to action this week by hosting Holland (4-4 overall and 3-1 in district), while Weimar travels to district-leading Flatonia (7-1 and 4-0 in district.
