Shorthorns Fall at Refugio, Face Rice Thursday
The Schulenburg football is still looking for its first victory of the season after falling at Refugio 36-8 Friday.
The Bobcats (1-1) outgained the Shorthorns 271 yards to 180. Refugio’s Tybari Swain returned an interception for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass and ran for a TD.
Schulenburg was down 30-0 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter, via a safety and a then a 20-yard touchdown pass from Owen Brenek to Denver Carr. Tim Lara ran for 95 yards to lead Schulenburg.
The Shorthorns play their home opener this week on Thursday against Rice Consolidated. Rice is 2-0 and beat 4A Houston Wheatley 24-22 in the season opener and then pounded Hempstead 48-9 last week.
