Schulenburg Shorthorns Pound Weimar 49-0

Last year a Weimar victory over Schulenburg kept the Shorthorns out of the football playoffs.

This year, the Shorthorns got revenge - and then some.

In an absolute dismantling of their neighbors/rivals, Schulenburg pounded Weimar 49-0 Friday, a win that pretty much clinches a playoff berth for the Shorthorns.

Schulenburg sophomore quarterback Tyler Ryba ran wild, rushing for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremiah Houston ran for two scores and Desmond Lewis also ran for a touchdown.

The Shorthorn defense limited Weimar to just 162 total yards. Nunu Wilson ran for a team-high 72 yards for the Wildcats, who fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in district.

Schulenburg punctuated this win with a 85-yard interception return for a touchdown by Manny Herrera with 23 seconds left in the game.

Friday’s win improved the Shorthorns’ record to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in district as Schulenburg prepares to play host to Ganado (3-4 overall and 1-0 in district) this Friday.
