Schulenburg Baseball Falls in Regional Finals

In heartbreaking fashion, Schulenburg’s amazing baseball season game to an end in the regional final Thursday in Katy in a 2-1 loss to Iola.

The game was a scoreless tie until the sixth inning when Iola pushed across two unearned runs against Schulenburg starting pitcher Connor Lichnovsky.

The Shorthorns got one run back in the top of the seventh when a single by Eli Blansitt scored Emerson Harvey, but Schulenburg couldn’t complete the comeback.

Lichnovksy ended up allowing just five hits over his 5.2 innings of work. Pitcher Nick Goode got the final out in relief of Lichnovksy Three errors hurt the Shorthorns in this one.

Schulenburg ends its season with a 28-7 record. Iola advances to the state semifinals.

The Shorthorns graduate a lot of talented players from this team but will return almost all of their pitchers. Schulenburg is moving up to 3A next season.
