Schramek Had Monster Game On Homecoming for Shorthorns
Schulenburg senior football player Kenny Schramek is a multisport athlete who has provided a large body of work in all sports throughout his tenure for the Shorthorns. As Schulenburg nearly upset the number three ranked team in the state in Burton, Schramek tallied five receptions for 161 yards and three touchdowns. “He’s doing really well. He’s helping the team. He’s getting after it,” said Schulenburg head football coach Walt Brock. “I think he’s had a touchdown every game. Just really getting after it, catching the ball well. I think he had nine tackles on defense this past week. Can’t say enough about it. He wants everybody to get better and he’s striving for that. He’s really listening, buying in, and doing what he’s asked to do. We’re really proud of him.” Schramek’s hot start to the season has given him the nod for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.
Question: How were you able to have such a big night vs Burton?
Answer: “I think it was the fact that they were ranked third in the state. It gave us motivation. We came out and worked hard in practice. We weren’t able to finish the job on Friday night, but we worked hard and that was it.”
Question: What’s it like being a multi-sport athlete?
Answer: “It keeps me busy. I like football and basketball a little bit more, so I like to focus on those. It just keeps me busy.”
Question: Out of all the sports you play, which sport would you say you’re best at and why?
Answer: “I think I’m better at basketball. I’m not really sure why. I just like it more.”
Question: What are the keys to being a good receiver?
Answer: “Just running routes right, being able to catch the ball, having a good team that surrounds you and throws blocks for you, that type of thing. Having a good quarterback, too.”
Question: If you could only play one video game for the rest of your life, which one would you choose and why?
Answer: “Probably Call of Duty. It’s just fun.”
Question: Where’s your favorite place to play a sporting event and why?
Answer: “I like it here just because it’s grass. A lot of schools are moving to turf and I don’t necessarily like turf. I like grass. Shiner has a nice field too.”
Question: Who’s an athlete you look up to and why?
Answer: “LeBron James just because he’s motivational and he’s really good at what he does.”
Question: What professional sports team do you follow the most?
Answer: “I follow the NFL pretty closely. We do fantasy every year. Me and a group of friends. We look at it every week.”
Question: What’s a senior leadership tactic that’s most important to you?
Answer: “Just keeping everyone involved and motivated to come out to practice. Having a positive attitude and keeping them all riled up.”
Question: How does playing for Schulenburg shape you as a person?
Answer: “Coach Brock pushes the morals of being a man. He’s a good coach and he keeps us on our toes.” Schramek has made heavy contributions to Schulenburg athletics and has more big things ahead as he continues his senior campaign.
