RT-C’s Egypt Woods Medals in Every Event She Competed in at District Meet
Round Top-Carmine track runner Egypt Woods plays a bunch of sports and recently helped her track team in a big way.
At the District 29-1A meet, she won the title in the long jump event, then went on to lead her team to a runner up finish as the anchor leg in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays en route to a District 29-1A team title.
“I’m super proud of Egypt,” said Round Top-Carmine head track and field coach Catie Carney. “She puts forth the effort all year and then it’s come to pay off in the track season. She’s in multiple events and we gave her a special shoutout the other day because she medaled in every single event she did at district track. We played around with the relays a little bit and found that she was best at the anchor and she’s been running strong for us. We’re super proud of her.”
Woods’ accomplishments in a number of events and aspects has made her our selection for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.
Question: What are the keys to a good long jump?
Answer: “It would be to have good strength in your running and have a good foot placement on the board.”
Question: What kind of things do you and your teammates discuss before a relay race?
Answer: “Just try our best and always putting good effort into it. No matter the outcome, we’re always proud of each other. We always try to boost each other up the best we can if one of us is really nervous.”
Question: Who’s a teammate you usually hand off with in a relay race?
Answer: “I would say our last year senior Ilse Salinas, but since she graduated, I really don’t hand off to anyone really since I’m last leg.”
Question: You play other sports as well, which is your favorite and why?
Answer: “Basketball because I like the close contact and being able to move up and down the court really good with the ball.”
Question: What’s your dream college and why?
Answer: “I haven’t really thought about college, but if I could, go to Sam Houston.”
Question: What was the best gift you received for Easter?
Answer: “Money”
Question: Where’s a place you enjoy going the most and why?
Answer: “Probably to my grandma’s house because I get to spend time with my family a lot.”
Question: If you need to talk to someone, who’s the first person you call?
Answer: “My mom.”
Question: What’s a memory you have of running track that you’ll never forget?
Answer: “The time where I almost slipped out on my blocks.”
Question: What’s an activity you like to do in Round Top?
Answer: “We don’t really have much around here, but I guess hang out with friends, really.”
Woods’ contributions on the track have been a huge part of Round Top-Carmine’s team success.
