What a weekend it was for Fayette County baseball and softball teams.

Three county baseball teams, La Grange, Flatonia and Round Top-Carmine, won first their first round playoff series. Meanwhile, the Flatonia girls won their second round series and now advance to the regional quarterfinals.

Here’s a re-cap:

La Grange

None of the local postseason series had as much drama as the Leps’ best-of-three series against Burnet in Hutto.

After rain postponed Thursday’s opener, the two teams played a doubleheader Friday.

Burnet dominated Game 1 8-0, but then the Leps bounced back in Game 2 to win 3-0 as Trenton Barnes and Cameron Kruse combined to throw a nohitter.

Barnes threw the first six innings, striking out six and Kruse pitched a perfect seventh.

That sent the two teams into a Game 3 Saturday back in Hutto. The Leps won that one 1-0 as Kadyn Hall drove in Brendan Maddox with the game-winner in the eighth inning. Chase Krnavek pitched seven innings of shutout baseball before Kruse pitched a scoreless eight to get the save.

The series victory vaults the Leps into the area round where they will face Rusk, the school that knocked them out of the playoffs last season in the second round.

Details of that series were not available at press time.

Round Top-Carmine

In a wild 1A one-game series in Waller Friday, Round Top-Carmine just held off a furious rally by High Island to win 11-10.

The Cubs had an 11-5 lead going into the final inning before High Island rallied for five runs.

Hunter Schobel had two hits, including a home run and drove in four runs for RT-C. Tanner Schobel was the starting pitcher for the Cubs and threw 3.2 innings of two-run ball. He also walked four times at the plate.

Alex Estranda had three hits, including a double and three RBIs.

Judson Gold has two hits. Brayden Dallmeyer had one hit, one run and one RBI.

Kannyn Goehring had one hit, one run and one RBI and also got the save, retiring the final two batters of the game.

The Cubs now advance to play Bartlett in the next round, details to be determined.

The winner of that series faces Fayetteville in the third round.

Flatonia baseball

The Flatonia team defeated Thrall 9-1 in a one-game series Friday at the La Grange fairgrounds.

Titan Targac pitched six innings of two-hit ball and also hit a grand slam homer.

Dayton Cliffe has two hits, including a double and drove in two runs. Camden Bosl also had two hits and drove in a run.

The Bulldogs now advance to face Evadale in the next round.

That will be a three-game series at Magnolia West High School.

There will be a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. and a Game 3 Saturday at 1 p.m. if necessary.

Flatonia softball

The Flatonia softball team had no trouble beating Freer in their best-of-three series, winning 14-4 Thursday and 17-1 Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs now advance to face Ganado in a onegame playoff Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cuero. Flatonia lost to Ganado both

Flatonia lost to Ganado both meetings in district play.

Against Freer Thursday, Flatonia’s Annie Charanza pitched a complete game three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Camryn Smith had three hits, including two doubles and drove in three runs.
