The Other Top Guys in the Running for the La Grange Football A/D Job

Two weeks ago, La Grange ISD hired Ponder head coach Kyle Cooper as the new Leopard Head football coach and athletic director.

He was one of 133 applicants for the job.

That big list was eventually whittled down to several applicants who were interviewed for the position.

The Record has obtained, through an open records request, the names of the other coaches who were semifinalists for the job before Cooper was hired. They are:

Mike Dormady: Offensive coordinator at 6A Waxahachie, who had been a head coach at Wylie East and Boerne High School David Branscom: Current defensive coordinator at 6A Allen, who had been the head coach at San Antonio Brandeis

Gary McElroy: Current head coach at 3A Peaster ISD and former head coach at 5A Burleson

Sean Van de Merghel: Current co-offensive coordinator for 6A state champ Desoto and former head coach at Edinburg Economedes.

Andreas Aguirre: Current athletic director and head football coach at 2A San Saba ISD .
