Navidad Valley CattleWomen to Host 9th Annual 5K Ranch Run
This summer is hotter than ever, but this won’t stop runners and walkers from showing up bright and early on Aug. 6 for the 9th Annual Navidad Valley CattleWomen 5K Ranch Run. This event happens in conjunction with the Schulenburg Festival each year, which traditionally brings families and friends together to share in the fun.
The Reunion Theme will continue as it has inspired family fun and teamwork. This means that along with the traditional age group prizes there will be special prizes for the following categories: largest family group, youngest participant, most “seasoned” participant, and runner who travelled the furthest to participate.
This year there will be a new category for cross country athletes who are training for their next season as UIL and TAPPS competitors. This will include divisions for both junior high and high school athletes. There is a special discount for cross country athletes’ registration.
The funds raised will be awarded to graduating seniors from Fayette, Lavaca and Colorado counties with an interest in Agriculture. Navidad Valley CattleWomen have presented over $80,000 in scholarships since they were first awarded in 2006.
Runners and walkers interested in participating and supporting area youth interested in pursuing their education past high school can register at http://getmeregistered.com/NVCattleWomen5K or contact Susie Shank at (979)820-8964. To be guaranteed a shirt runners/walkers should register by July, 20.
The Navidad Valley Cattle-Women, a local chapter of the Texas Cattlewomen, is a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes the beef industry. The Navidad Valley local works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Additionally, they work to support the community with targeted outreach projects that include a beefy twist.
