Mihatsch Juggling Soccer & Tennis Success This Spring for Lady Leps
La Grange soccer player Kambri Mihatsch served as goalkeeper for the Lady Leps soccer team this year on a squad that finished runner-up in district. Mihatsch also is a star tennis player and has medaled in every tournament she’s participated in for the season. She’s now the favorite to become the girl’s singles district champion.” Kambri has really rose to the occasion for us,” said La Grange head girl’s soccer coach Chris Westall. “She got some good training as a back up this year, so this is her year to be the starting goalie for us and she’s done the job. Kambri has always put in the effort that we want from her and has been able to solidly play every game and keep our offense in these games. Going forward for the playoffs, she’s going to be vital with that back four there in front of her. That’s going to be a big part of us having success in the playoffs.” Mihatsch’s presence in both soccer and tennis has loomed large for opposing teams, making her our choice for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.
Question: Which sport would you say you’re better at, tennis or soccer and why?
Answer: “Probably tennis because I’ve been playing it for so long. I’ve been playing the sport for eight years now. Soccer just comes naturally to me, though, because of my tennis experience. But I probably have to say tennis.”
Question: Who would you rather have as a tennis player, Venus or Serena Williams and why?
Answer: “Probably Serena Williams just because I know her forehand is super fun to play with. She has a crazy playing style, so I really have to say her.”
Question: Who’s your favorite soccer team and why?
Answer: “Real Madrid just because me and Ronaldo have SeeMihatsch, next page the same birthday, so when he was on the team, I used to watch him a lot.”
Question: In your opinion, what’s the most important part about being an athlete? Answer: “Mindset. I know
Answer: “Mindset. I know that it’s really easy for some athletes to get down on themselves. Honestly, if you stay positive, you’ll play the way that you feel. I just always feel like it’s best to have a good mindset.”
Question: What’s the strongest part about your game in tennis?
Answer: “My consistency. I’m able to go for really long rallies and I don’t try to take the killer points very soon, so I try to play as much game as I can. I’m a very consistent player and that throws a lot of people off.”
Question: Where is your dream vacation and why?
Answer: “Rome because I like the architectural stuff there. I also just love the feeling of the towns.”
Question: If you could own a pet, what would it be and why?
Answer: “A fox. I always think that they’re very fun creatures and they seem very lively. Just a really nice pet.”
Question: What are your aspirations when it comes to sports?
Answer: “Just following through. Making sure that you do everything as best as you can.”
Question: What do you like to do in your free time?
Answer: “I mostly like to watch Netflix and then I do like to go out and play tennis in my free time.”
Question: What stands out to you the most about La Grange High School?
Answer: “The characteristics that we have around here. The teachers and the people that you meet. We have all different types of people. I feel like you just get to meet a whole variety of people and it’s really nice. You’ll always fit in somewhere.”
Mihatsch’s contributions in her respective sports has done wonders for La Grange athletics.
