Local Teams Grab District Titles With Wins in Regular Season Finales

La Grange

The La Grange varsity volleyball team played their last home match Tuesday, beating Manor New Tech 25-9, 25-6, 25-11. The Lady Leps finished the regular season with a 26-18 overall record and a 11-1 in district mark, tying with Giddings for the district title for the third consecutive year. Those two teams will play to break the tie for playoff purposes Friday in Smithville at 5 p.m. Then the Lady Leps will play a Houston ISD team in the first round of the playoffs Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Sealy.

In Tuesday’s match Maddi Fritz led the Lady Leps in kills with 11 and Hailey Hill had nine. Mara Colon and Hill had five digs each. Fritz had five aces and Haylie Cooper and Hill had four each. Hill had 15 assists and Fritz had 11.

The La Grange JV also defeated Manor New Tech 25-12, 25-13 Tuesday to improve to 10-2 in district (co-champs) and 18-11 overall.

The La Grange freshmen defeated Manor New Tech 25-8, 25-6 to end their season with a 802 district record (2nd place) and 17-11 overall record.

Schulenburg

The Schulenburg volleyball team defeated Shiner 25-15, 2523, 25-20 Tuesday as the Lady Horns clinched the 27-2A district title.

Mackenzie Kunschick had 20 kills and Meredith Magliolo and Jesslyn Gipson added six kills each.

Landry Zapalac had three aces.

Magliolo had six blocks. Landry Zapalac had 32 assists.

Fayetteville

In a match against the No. 3-ranked 2A team in the state, Iola, Fayetteville lost 25-22, 25-- 20, 25-23. The Lady Lions record is now 37-5 overall and 7-1 in district.

Brooklyn Jaeger had 19 kills and Kayme Schley had seven. Rylie Dyer and Jaeger had three aces each. Jaeger led in digs with 17. Marissa Rohde had 12 and Schley had nine. Kynley Hurst had 25 assists.

The Fayetteville and Round Top-Carmine volleyball teams finished tied for the 28-1A titles. They will play one another to determine playoff seeding Saturday, Oct, 29.
