Local Players Shine as Serbin Jackrabbits Win the Community League Baseball Title

The Serbin Jackrabbits defeated the Flatonia Wildcats 15-0 in five innings, to claim the 2026 Community League Baseball Championship, on Sunday at Voelker-Koether Field in La Grange.

Serbin reached the final game with a convincing win over Weimar in the semi-final round, while Flatonia edged out New Ulm last week, 4-3 to reach their first CLB championship game since joining the league four years ago.

The Jackrabbits got off to a quick start as Holden Jatzlau led off the 1st inning with a single, then scored on a perfect bunt down the third base line by Chase Wheaton to give Serbin the only run they would need, but not the only one they would score.

Flatonia starter, Brycen Schramek, retired Serbin in order in the second inning, but a five-run 3rd inning put Serbin in the driver’s seat behind another dominant per-formance by their starting pitcher, Chance Norman and catcher, Kadyn Hall.

Flatonia brought in a new arm in the 4th and was able to keep Serbin quiet, but in the 5th, two hit batters, a couple of base hits, and an untimely error led to an eventual 9-run inning, ending with a single to right field by Chase Wheaton, scoring Colter Zoch from second, and ending the game by “run-rule.”

Norman recorded a complete game shutout, giving up 3 hits and striking out 3 in 5 innings for the Jackrabbits.

Solid defensive plays in the field by Serbin, including 2 double plays in the middle infield, kept Flatonia from ever making a serious threat.

Offensively, Serbin was lead by Holden Jatzlau, with 2 hits and 3 runs scored, and Ty Kasper, who also scored 3 runs while reaching base on 2 hits and a walk.

This is Serbin’s 2nd Community League Championship in 3 years, highlighted by a 28-2 record over those 3 years. Manager Eldor Becker said, “this is the best team I ever coached.”
