The La Grange Leopard 8th grade football team was back in action last Thursday losing a heartbreaking game to Bellville 22-14. After the Leps controlled the ball the entire first quarter, they punched it in on an Oliver Gunn’s five yard run early in the second quarter. The following two point try was no good. The Leps struggled to move the ball for nearly the remainder of the game, finding first downs on only a few of their drives.
Coach Amick said, “When we were in rhythm we did alright. Just need to stay ahead of the chains and touch the ball a few more times.”
The Leps only saw five possessions, two of those being only one play long. Quarterback Oliver Gunn threw for 130 yds as he hit on some big plays, one of which was a 60 yard pass to Cabrerra. He followed that up with a two point run. Also making big pass receptions were Aiden Gunter (30 yds.) and Mason Kleiber (30 yds). Erick Guevara played strong on the offensive line as the Leps made a final push. Defensively, the Leps were led by strong play from Defensive Linemen Kash Wessels and Hector Maldonado and Graham Youens, Cornerback.
The Leopards travel to Gonzales this Thursday to take on the Apaches.

“I know this is a tough statement to understand,” Coach Tom Walker said. “But we got better during this game. A lot of this group has never played football, so we set goals each week. Positive plays, first downs, touchdowns, and then winning games. We had lots of positive plays which resulted in several first downs, so we are meeting goals. And I’m super proud of them.”
