LG Girls Soccer Improves to 5-1
The La Grange girls varsity soccer squad competed in the Giddings tournament over the weekend and although two teams had to drop out due to COVID – as well as the varsity squad itself missing up to six players for the same reason – the team went 2-1 in the matches played.
On Thursday, LG girls beat Bellville 3-2 with two goals by Kaelyn Ortiz, one goal and one assist by Camila Martinez, and nine saves by goalie Kambri Mihatsch.
For Friday, a tough shorthanded match against Needville resulted in a 0-3 loss, with the bright spot being backup goalie Emma Jakobeit making four saves.
Saturday saw the varsity topple Scarborough 6-1 in difficult conditions with constant wind in excess of 25 mph. Goals scored included two by Kaelyn Ortiz and a goal apiece from Ellee Sodolak, Angela Martinez, Kambri Mihatsch and Dulce Merlos.
The varsity overall record stands at 5-1. The girls are back in action at Lep Stadium on Friday, Jan. 21 vs. IDEA Montopolis at 6 p.m.
