What a difference 24 hours made for the La Grange boys basketball team.

Tuesday afternoon the Leps were 1-2 in district, but then went to Austin that night and bashed Eastside 74-27.

They they followed that up with a 52-29 dismantling of Austin Achieve at home Wednesday.

Suddenly the Leps (11-12 overall) are 3-2 in district.

“We’ve got some momentum now,” said La Grange’s Jaxon Cooper, who scored a whopping 32 points Wednesday after scoring a team-high 21 Tuesday. “Hopefully we keep that momentum going into Friday and on into the second half of district play.”

The Leps conclude the first half of district play Friday at home at 7:30 p.m. against Giddings, the team they are currently tied with for third in the standings.

La Grange head coach David Cooper said he thought Wednesday’s outing was the Leps’ best of the season.

“I thought tonight’s game was our best overall on both ends of the court this season,” David Cooper said. “We really put it together.”

“We realized this was a win we had to get and everybody stepped up and played their role,” said Jaron Woods, a big force inside, who blocked and/or changed several shots Wednesday.

Jaxon Cooper started the game with a couple of big three pointers and never looked back en route to one of the biggest scoring nights of the junior’s varsity career.

“We’ve been on him, we know there’s more in there and he’s just lacked a little confidence from the outside,” David Cooper said. “So it was good to see him get his first couple of shots to go tonight and it just progressed from there.”

The Leps led by just seven at halftime, but capped the game outscoring Achieve 9-0 in the fourth quarter.

“We just need to remember the intensity we played with tonight on the defensive side and the execution we had on the offensive end,” David Cooper said.
