LG Boys Advance but Girls Fall in First Round of Soccer Playoffs

LG Boys Advance but Girls Fall in First Round of Soccer Playoffs

It was a split decision Friday night for the La Grange boys and girls soccer teams as they began the playoffs.

The La Grange boys defeated Bellville 1-0 in Brenham thanks to a late goal by Jonathan Vazquez-Granillo and as usual the Leps had a spectacular defensive effort. La Grange improves to 17-6-2 overall and they advance to face Mexia in the area round, Tuesday March 29 at 7 p.m. at Bryan High School’s Merrill Green Stadium.

Meanwhile, the La Grange girls saw their season come to an end with a 2-0 first round loss to Navasota in Bellville.

“With many playing in their first playoff match, we had to work out some nerves but before we could we were quickly down 2-0,” said coach Chris Westall. “After that, the team settled in, started playing better, and by the second half we had the momentum back and had our chances to get back in the match, but just couldn’t get the ball to go in the net. Extremely proud of the group that played tonight in how they responded and played with maximum effort until the final buzzer. Overall, it was another successful season. Unfortunately it didn’t end as we had wanted, but a lot of younger players gained invaluable experience for next season.”

The Lady Leps end their season with a 13-6 record.
