Leps Sweep Smithville, Jump in Standings

The La Grange baseball team has worked its way back into the district title conversation in 20-4A.

The Leps swept Smithville in a pair of district games last week (the Tigers had not lost any district games before facing La Grange). Those wins vaulted the Leps into a second place tie with the Tigers, just a half game behind Giddings.

Giddings closes its regular season this week with a pair of games against the Tigers, while the Leps face fifth place Austin LBJ Tuesday in La Grange at 6 p.m. and Friday in Austin.

Last Friday against Smithville Trenton Barnes pitched five innings of two-hit ball with 10 strikeouts. Cameron Kruse pitched the final two innings.

Brendan Maddox had three hits, including a double and two RBIs.

Ty Stark had two hits. Clay Wolff hit a double.
