The Freshmen football team is off to a 1-2 start. Won against Jarrell 28-8, lost to Canyon Lake 32-36, and lost to La Vernia 0-6. The defense has played strong in all three games, highlighted by Julian Sherman’s interception returned for a TD against Jarrell, and Camden Coltrain’s fumble recovery for a touchdown against Canyon Lake. The offense has played well in two of the three games with TD’s scored by Max Dixon (3), Bryant Meng (3), Le’Kayvion Broussard (2), Elijah Haardt (1), and Kameron Leonard (1). 8th Grade: La Vernia 14, LG 0
8th Grade Leopards started their 2021 campaign with a tough test in La Vernia, losing 14-0.
The Bears returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown making it an uphill climb the rest of the way.
The Leopard offense was stymied all night by a ferocious defensive Line. La Grange managed to force three 4th down stops in the first half. The half ended with La Grange throwing one of their two interceptions in the game for a La Vernia Touchdown.
The second half went much the way of the first with the staunch Leopard defense again forcing three 4th down stops and Mason Kleiber getting an interception.
The offense moved the ball, but couldn’t seem to overcome the La Vernia defense. The Leopard defense was led by Dylan Kutchka, Brayden McCoy, and Oliver Gunn. The Leps will be on the road next week versus Smithville, in the first of two matchups against their rivals from the North.
