Leps Leps Shine on Senior Night
Tuesday was the last career home game for the senior members of the La Grange girls basketball team, and what a show they put on.
With five seniors starting, the Lady Leps jumped out to a 32-2 lead after the first quarter, and then La Grange coasted the rest of the way to a 58-11 win over Manor New Tech.
The victory improves the Lady Leps overall record to 18-9 and their district mark to 11-1.
That leaves them tied with Taylor for the District 22-4A title. Those two teams will play to break that tie Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Manor New Tech High School. The winner will get the No. 1 playoff seed, the loser will be the No. 2 seed.
This is the fourth consecutive year coach Heath Golan’s Lady Leps have won or tied for the district title.
Before things get serious in the postseason, Tuesday was all about celebration as Parents/Senior Night was held before the home finale.
The five seniors who started the game Friday were Keslyn Davis, Camille Gonzalez, Katelyn Allen, Rachel Matocha and Railla Bradley. Additionally, injured senior Alicia Tisdell cheered from the bench along with senior manager Kayler Burnett.
“It was good to see the seniors play quite a bit tonight on their last game on this court,” said Golan. “They’ve been a big part of this team for a while. I told them to think about all the girls they started with back in middle school, and all they went through.”
Matocha said, “Tonight was very surreal. We’ve been doing this our whole lives, and now we’re done with the home games.”
Davis led the Lady Leps in scoring with 11. Freshman Kylie Trlicek and Gonzalez both scored 10.
That 32-point first quarter start showed just how explosive this Lady Leps team can be. They are finishing the regular season on a high note, after starting the season a little slow. “I’m pleased with how we played. We overcame a lot,” Gonzalez said.
“The chemistry of this team really helped us,” Davis said.
Now the Lady Leps will rely on the experience of this senior-laden team as they try to make a long playoff run.
“We just have to keep working hard,” Bradley said.
