Leps Knock Off Caldwell

 In the second quarter Leps’ sophomore quarterback Bear Meng scored on a two yard touchdown run and later threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Chovanetz.

Meng was five-of-seven passing for 101 yards Friday.

Chovanetz’s touchdown was the first of his varsity career on a night when he had three catches for a team-high 83 yards. “It was a good feeling. The kind of thing you dream of as a kid,” said Chovanetz. “We’ve been working hard all week. We knew if we played together as a team we could accomplish anything.”

In the third quarter La Grange got a touchdown run from Jakobe Wilkerson and Davis’ second TD run of the night.

Also in the third quarter Caldwell’s Turner was injured after a run and was taken off on a stretcher. La Grange’s Bravion Rogers was limited to mostly defensive plays Friday as he continues to recover from a nagging injury.

La Grange’s linebacker Andrew Faske, one of the team’s leading tacklers, sat out Friday’s game with an injury and his return has yet to be determined, Kates said. The Leps return to action Friday at Giddings, which lost to Smithville 27-7 Friday and is in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Buffaloes are 1-6 this season with their only win coming against Jarrell. “Giddings does a lot of different formations and stresses you in a lot of ways,” Kates said. “We’ve got to have a great week of practice defensively and find some ways to get our speed guys the ball in some space.”
