Legendary Schulenburg Hoops Coach Richard Hoogendoorn is Resigning

Legendary Schulenburg head boys basketball coach Richard Hoogendoorn is resigning. Hoogendoorn told The Schulenburg Sticker last week he chose to resign rather than accept a role as the assistant coach for the team, but is considering other coaching opportunities elsewhere.

Hoogendoorn coached the Shorthorns for 26 years and amassed 525 wins there.

Overall Hoogendoorn has 899 career wins and 563 losses (including 10 years at Fayetteville from 1990 to 2000 among other coaching stops), making him one of the winningest coaches in the nation.

Hoogendoorn led the Shorthorns to the state semifinals in 2015 and 2021 and his team was 24-10 overall and district champs this year but lost in the second round of the playoffs.

Jordan Hafley, an assistant coach under Hoogendoorn the past three seasons, will take over as the new head boys basketball coach of the Shorthorns.
