Lady Leps Spike Manor New Tech

The La Grange volleyball team had no trouble quickly downing visiting Manor New Tech Tuesday, needing less than an hour to sweep them 25-9, 25-9, 25-8.

The victory improved their record to 3-1 in district and 12-23 overall.

“We would like to be 4-0 in district, but we’re 3-1 and that’s OK,” said La Grange head coach Leslie Coltrain. “We have goals in front of us. These first four (district) matches told us a lot. We want to go into the second round of district with only one loss, and want to build on what we’ve done in the first four matches and keep getting better.”

Maddi Fritz led the way for the Lady Leps in kills with 12 and Camille Gonzalez had 11.

Dig leader was Emma Coltrain with seven.

Abigail DelaRosa had a team-high four aces and Jena Jobb and Hailey Hill each had three aces.

Assist leader was Hill with 18 and Fritz had 10.

“I wanted to see us have some consistency tonight,” Coltrain said. “I wanted to see us run some of the combo plays we’ve been working on in practice and we got to run some of those. I wanted to run our middle, that will pay off dividends moving through the rest of district and into the postseason and I saw those things, and I want to see more of that.”

Tuesday’s victory comes on the heels of Friday’s win at Smithville.

The Lady Leps remain one game behind Giddings, which is in first place in district with a 4-0 record.

“I’ve learned that this team can do really great things together and we’re capable of so much and I’m excited to see how these last few weeks go,” said La Grange senior Maddi Mach.

The La Grange JV defeated New Tech 25-8, 25-17 to improve to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in district.

La Grange freshmen defeated New Tech 25-9, 25-13 to improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in district.

The La Grange girls don’t play again until Tuesday when they travel to Austin Achieve for another district match.
