Lady Leps Knock Lake Belton from the Playoffs
The La Grange girls basketball team had a postseason showdown against Lake Belton Saturday afternoon at Rockdale high school and came out victorious with a final score of 61-33 in order to advance to the next round of the 4A playoffs.
The Lady Leps’ swarming full-court press wreaked havoc as they scored a great amount of their points from turnovers. They were also able to penetrate to the hoop for close-range looks and put the ball in the basket.
“From the beginning of the season, I’ve always told the girls that our defense will give us easy offense,” said La Grange head girls basketball coach Heath Golan. “They’ve bought in and done a great job. Coming off a lay off like that, it’s good to see that it still works.”
Junior shooting guard Aysia Grant led all scorers with 19 points and produced on both ends of the floor, coming up with steals which resulted in lay ups.
“My team, they help me a lot with the assists,” Grant said. “Like Coach Golan tells us, go up strong, don’t fade out, and you’ll do really good in scoring.
The rebounds and blocked shots will get looked at, but it’s really the team and the assists.”
La Grange started the game in a 2-3 zone defense and swiped a steal on the first possession, thanks to junior guard Kailee Jones. The Lady Leps were unable to score on the possession, which was followed by a made three-pointer and the first score of the game by Lake Belton. La Grange answered back with a lay up and three-pointer, both made by senior guard Megan Brothers. As soon as the Lady Leps went into their full-court press, they forced another turnover. Lake Belton’s man-to-man half-court defense couldn’t hold down La Grange as their halfcourt offense and play making bolted them out to a 21-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The purple and gold kept their momentum going into the next quarter as they opened with a 10-0 run and took a comfortable 34-18 lead at halftime. La Grange continued to play with aggression in the third quarter, rebounding on defense and getting the ball out in transition. The Lady Broncos couldn’t make any kind of run as La Grange expanded their big lead to 49-24 heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Leps switched to a man-to-man defense in the fourth and continued to tack on the points en route to a 61-33 win.

LG Playoff Doubleheader
The La Grange boys and girls will play a playoff doubleheader Tuesday in Rockdale, though fans will need separate tickets to attend both games.
The La Grange boys (13-7) will start the action with a 6 p.m. game against Jarrell. Then the Lady Leps (12-5) will play Robinson (14-8) at 7:45 p.m.
