Lady Leps Hit New Season-High For Points Scored in Easy Win

In a season that just keeps looker better and better, Friday was new high for the Lady Leps basketball team.

The La Grange girls scored a season-high 69 points as they overwhelmed Smithville 69-27 at home.

“When the press is working and we are also hitting shots in our half-court set, you know it’s a good night,” said La Grange head coach Heath Golan. “Usually we get one or the other. We don’t get them both on the same night often, so it was good to see that.”

The victory improves the Lady Leps’ overall record to 14-8 and their district mark to 7-0 as they get ready to play at second place Taylor Tuesday.

The Lady Leps controlled this game all night, and even as their reserves played almost as many minutes as the starters, the lead just continued to grow.

Keslyn Davis led the way for La Grange with 16. Kylie Trlicek added 12 and Landri Hernandez had 10. Camille Gonzalez scored eight. Railla Bradley and Maddy Kates came off the bench to score eight and seven points respectively.

“We were moving the ball really well, and creating open shots,” Trlicek said.

The kind of depth that was on display Friday is a source of pride for this year’s Lady Leps.

“None of us are selfish, we like to share the ball, we’re not greedy. We want to put the team first,” said Hernandez.

“With injuries early on in the season all the girls had to step up and play, and that gave them a lot of confidence and experience,” Golan said. “It’s starting to show. They got a lot of minutes early in the season.”
