Friday the La Grange girls vaulted themselves into a first place tie with a win at Giddings.

Tuesday, the Lady Leps showed why they plan to stay atop those district standings.

In one of the highest scoring performances by a La Grange girls basketball team, ever, the Lady Leps rolled to a 81-28 win over Smithville.

“We did really well passing, getting the ball around and looking for the open shot,” said Camille Gonzalez, who scored 19 points and was one of four Lady Leps in double figures.

“We’re trying to prove to other teams, and everyone else, what we can do,” said La Grange guard Katelyn Allen, who scored 14. “We were moving the ball around, and it’s fun to give everyone a chance to show what they can do on the court.”

Much of the game La Grange was actually in pace to break the 100-mark, but slowed things down in the second half.

La Grange led 50-17 at halftime.

“This was definitely a season high,” said La Grange head coach Heath Golan. “I didn’t want it to get to that point, but it was one of those nights where we couldn’t miss, and it didn’t matter who was on the floor.”

Keslyn Davis had 10.

Aysia Grant, who scored 35 in Friday’s win over Giddings, led La Grange again Tuesday with 24.

“Fortunately I’ve been able to coach her (Grant) for four years and she’s really progressed and stepped up these last few games and shown that four-year varsity leadership, and hopefully it continues because she’s on a roll right now,” Golan said.

The Lady Leps now have a 24-7 overall record and an 8-1 district mark and play at Manor New Tech Friday.
