Lady Leps Bomb Giddings in Softball

The La Grange High School softball team had a match against Giddings High School last Wednesday and were victorious by mercy rule with a final score of 12-2. Giddings started the action with a two-run bomb in the top of the first inning, then La Grange settled in on both sides of the ball and poured on the runs throughout the game.

“We’ve had to battle our hearts out the entire season,” said La Grange head softball coach Amanda Arlund. “They knew what we were capable of. I’m very proud of them for having a game like that.”

Senior pitcher Abby Dela Rosa put on an outstanding show at the plate and on the mound by providing run support with her bat while pitching a complete game. “I have to calm myself before I go to the plate,” Delarosa said. “That’s what really settles me down. To go up to bat after pitching is what I have to think.”

The two-run homer from Giddings in the top of the first inning gave them a 2-0 lead before a bunt attempt from the Lady Leps resulted in wild throws from Giddings and a tie game at two. La Grange’s Alyssa Licconi then notched a RBI base hit to give her team a 3-2 lead that was followed by a two-RBI triple from Dela Rosa to put the score at 5-2. More wild throws from Giddings added run support for La Grange along with more hitting from the home team to secure a 12-2 win.

The Lady Leps stayed hot Saturday, blasting Manor New Tech 16-1.

Dela Rosa pitched a complete game one-hitter.

The Lady Leps are now 3-0 in district play and play at Smithville Tuesday at 7 p.m. for early control of first place in District 20-4A.
