Lady Leps Beat Bellville 40-31
The La Grange girls basketball team is learning fast.
Even with a lot of varsity newcomers on this year’s team the Lady Leps won their fifth consecutive game Friday, beating Bellville 40-31.
“It was kind of a rough start to this season, lots of new girls, and we’re still missing Camille (Gonzalez, who is inured), she is one of our senior leaders,” said La Grange head coach Heath Golan. “It’s taken a while for some of the new players to learn what the varsity speed and physicality is, but the girls are starting to figure out their roles.”
One of those varsity newcomers who is looking more and more and more comfortable on
the court is sophomore Landri Hernandez, who scored a team-high 11 points in Friday’s win.
“She gives us a spark and is athletic defensively and that can lead to easy baskets for her and her teammates,” Golan said.
“Our team is pretty young and honestly at the beginning of the season we were a little worried but now that we’ve gotten a few wins our confidence is growing,” Hernandez said.
Keslyn Davis, Kylie Trlicek and Tori Harold all chipped in six points each for the Lady Leps Friday. Rachel Matocha and Maddy Kates each scored four.
Bellville actually led this one 9-6 after the first quarter but a 14-4 second quarter put La Grange up to stay.
The Lady Leps play at El Campo Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
