Lady Leopards Clinch Volleyball Playoff Berth

Schulenburg, Fayetteville & RT-C Also Win

The Lady Leps are officially playoff-bound.

La Grange volleyball team swept Caldwell Friday 25-10, 25-23, 25-23 to improve to 2318 overall and 8-1 in district and mathematically clinched a playoff berth – though with the strong way the Lady Leps are playing that has seemed clear for a while now. Maddi Fritz led the Lady Leps in kills with 13 Friday and Camille Gonzalez added 11.

“We just came out and worked well as a team and focused on some things we’ve needed to improve,” Gonzalez said. Jena Jobb had 19 digs and Fritz added 10. Jobb also led the team in aces with three. Fritz led in assists with 15 and Hailey Hill added 14. Gonzalez had a team-high five blocks and Kylie Trlicek added four. “We came out like gangbusters in the first set,” said La Grange head coach Leslie Coltrain. “But then Caldwell bounced back. They are much better than when we played them the first time ... Camille’s blocking was fun to watch tonight.”

The Lady Leps host Austin Achieve Tuesday with the JV at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity. There will be no freshmen game. La Grange JV defeated Caldwell Friday 25-16, 25-13 to improve to 8-1 in district and 1610 overall. The La Grange Freshmen lost to Caldwell 30-29, 19-25, 15-17 to fall to 15-11 overall and 6-2 in district.

Fresh off their upset of No. 1-ranked Fayetteville last week, the Round Top-Carmine volleyball team continued their strong play by downing Burton Friday. The Cubettes were down two sets to one but rallied to win the fourth set 25-19 and grabbed the final set 17-15.

Twins Tess and Jill Eilers each had double-doubles and Mallory Krause had her fourth triple-double of the season.

Krause had 10 kills, 16 digs and 27 assists. Tess Eilers had 17 kills and 21 digs. Jill Eilers had nine kills, 14 digs and 17 assists.

Maggie Salinas had 31 digs and Kaysie Ward had 11 kills and six blocks.

The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated Prairie Lea Friday 25-10, 25-15, 25-8 as the Lady Lions improved to 35-4 overall and 5-1 in district. Brooklyn Jaeger had 15 kills and Kayme Schley had 10.

Schley had eight aces and Mackenzie Poncik and Rylie Dyer had three. Jaeger had 11 digs and Marissa Rohde had seven. Kynley Hurst had 27 assists.

The Schulenburg volleyball team defeated Flatonia Friday 25-6, 25-13, 25-17. Landry Zapalac had 28 assists for the Lady Horns. Jessalyn Gipson had 12 kills and Meredith Magliolo had 10. Kieryn Adams had 24 digs and Tamara Otto added eight.

The Lady Horns improved to 24-16 with the victory and 6-1 in district. Flatonia fell to 12-18 overall and 2-5 in district.
