La Grange’s Riley Fisbeck Readies for Alabama

Riley Fisbeck has transferred to the University of Alabama.

Riley Fisbeck is extending her college volleyball career.

The La Grange High School graduate will be a graduate student for the University of Alabama team after competing three years for University of Texas.

Fisbeck said she entered the transfer portal after the fall season ended, and Alabama was among the schools to first contact her about playing. She shared film of her play with the coaches and visited the school two days accompanied by her parents. She accepted a scholarship offer and is one of three setters listed on the roster.

She already was on campus the last week of June because she has enrolled in an online class during the second summer session. Pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice, she said the players report the first week of July.

For Texas, the 6-foot-1 Fisbeck was a backup setter. She had six set assists and one dig in three matches the past season. She appeared in four matches during each of her sophomore and junior years. “Of course everyone wants to be on the court,” she said. “I was there if they ever needed me.”

She believes her training from being in the Texas program has prepared her for the upcoming season at Alabama, no matter her role. “I think my experience and my volleyball IQ will be fine for that,” she said.

During the shutdown she lifted weights at her house, did cardio workouts and ran. She practiced her skills at home and by participating in multiple open gyms.
