La Grange Volleyball Downs Giddings to Reclaim First Place
The La Grange Lady Leps got their volleyball revenge against Giddings – and got it in dominating fashion.
One week after falling to Giddings while missing two starters, La Grange once again played Giddings Friday. But this time, with everyone back in the lineup, the Lady Leps swept the Lady Buffs 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.
“It was a lot of fun, I thought the girls really rose to the occasion and took care of business,” said La Grange head volleyball coach Leslie Coltrain. “It was nice having everyone back, and just being able to play spoiler for their homecoming was nice.”
Lanie Doyle, in her first match in two weeks, led La Grange in kills with 11. Maddie Fritz, Natalie Blackwell and Ryann Marshall all had seven kills.
“It was so good to be back with the team,” Doyle said. “It was an emotional game for sure, we wanted it. We played really well.”
Megan Brothers had 29 digs against Giddings. Fritz had 15 assists and Brynna Stackhouse had 13.
Friday’s victory gave La Grange and Giddings each one district loss, and both teams are heavy favorites now to end the season as co-champs.
“It would be a great feeling, senior year, to get that title,” Doyle said.
After Friday’s big win, La Grange turned right around and hosted Austin Eastside Saturday.
La Grange won that one 25- 10, 25-6, 25-13.
Doyle again led in kills with 11 and Camille Gonzalez had nine. Brothers had 20 digs. Emma Coltrain had five aces and Ryann Marshall had four. Fritz had 16 assists and Stackhouse had 11. La Grange now has a 12- 13 overall record and a 7-1 mark in district with four more games left in the regular season starting Tuesday at Smithville.
