La Grange Soccer Sweeps Caldwell

La Grange Lady Leps Varsity Soccer team delivered a strong team performance on Tuesday, defeating the Caldwell Lady Hornets 3-1. With the win, the Lady Leps Varsity has won 11 of its last 13 games and is 9-2 in district play.

Playing with the wind-advantage, the Lady Leps scored 3 goals in the first 21 minutes of the game. Three players scored goals and three different players recorded assists:

• Freshman Lily Banks scored the Lady Leps’ initial goal, with an assist from senior captain Kyla Colon;

• Freshman Raylee Gutierrez scored the Lady Leps’ second goal, with an assist from senior captain Kaylee Soto (following a Banks’ corner kick); and

• Senior captain Trinity Yanis scored the Lady Leps’ third goal, with an assist from sophomore Jade Moya.

While Caldwell scored in the second half, senior captain Hope Michalke had another strong performance in goal. All 17 Lady Lep players made positive contributions on Tuesday.

Coach Barry Donovan, channeling fellow coach Ted Lasso, “The win was one chapter in a very long book. While I’m a big fan of a happy ending to a chapter, I’m even more excited to see what happens in the upcoming chapters.”

Next up: the Lady Leps JV and Varsity Soccer teams play at Salado on Friday, February 27. JV kicks off at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity kicks off at 7:15 p.m.

Leps Win 6-0

The Leopards took down the hornets 6-0. Jeffrey Cabrera scored early on an assist from Eli Rios. The game came to a lull until late in the first when Aldo Hernandez scored off a corner using the wind to bend the ball around the goalie. The leopards came out of half on fire and poured in 4 more goals over the course of the second half. Jeffrey Cabrera picked up to more goals to finish with a hat trick. Gio Luna and Raul Mancera finished with identical stat lines one goal and two assists.

Despite playing defense, Gio Luna is the top goal scoring freshman in the district. With his hat trick Jeffrey Cabrera has reached 20 goals on the season.
