High School Volleyball in Its Final Week of Regular Season
Back in August nobody knew how long high school volleyball season was going to last with all the uncertainty of the coronavirus.
But here were are in the final week of the regular season – and all five Fayette County volleyball teams are poised to make the playoffs, with Schulenburg and Round Top-Carmine already clinching district titles and La Grange two wins away from a share of their district title.
La Grange
The Lady Leps are heavy favorites in their last two matches Friday at Austin Achieve and then Saturday when La Grange hosts Austin LBJ at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale.
Giddings is currently a half game ahead of the Lady Leps (only because they have played one more match). If La Grange (which is currently 14-13 overall and 9-1 in district) wins their final two, they will pull into a district championship tie with the Lady Buffs.
Fayetteville
The Fayetteville volleyball team blasted McDade Tuesday, winning 25-14, 25-14, 25-12.
The Lady Lions improved to 14-6 overall and 10-3 in district with the win.
Brooklyn Jaeger had 12 kills and Kayme Schley added nine. Mattie Konvicka and Schley each had five aces. Jaeger had 15 digs and Rylie Dyer added seven. Landry Wied had 22 assists.
Schulenburg
The Schulenburg volleyball team defeated Weimar in a fiveset thriller Tuesday. Schulenburg won the first two sets 25-21, 25-16 but then lost the next two sets 27-25, 27-25 before rallying to win the fifth set 15-10.
Erica Otto has 28 kills for Schulenburg and Jordan Sommer had 15. Morgan Marburger had six kills, and Claire Antosh, Kloe Kutac and Meredith Magliolo all had five kills each.
Morgan Marburger had 51 assists.
Julie Guentert had 36 digs and Erica Otto had 21. Regan Lux and Marburger each had 15 digs. Tuesday’s victory improves the Lady Horns to 20-8 overall and 13-0 in district.
Flatonia
The Flatonia volleyball team defeated Shiner Tuesday 25-23, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20 as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-9 overall and 6-5 in district. No individual stats were available from Tuesday’s match, but in Friday’s loss to Weimar Carly Bonds led Flatonia with 14 kills and Ellie Fike had 13. Mollie Mica had 46 assists and Shannen Novak had 17 digs.
RT-C
The Round Top-Carmine volleyball team lost its first district match Tuesday, falling to Burton in five sets. RT-C won the first set 25-18, lost the second and third sets 24-26, 18-25 before bouncing back to win the fourth set 25-11. Burton, however, won the fifth set 15-11. Round Top-Carmine still has clinched the district 11-1 overall record heading into their regular season finale Friday at McDade.
