La Grange junior volleyball player Camille Gonzalez has brought energy to the Leopards offense by consistently putting herself towards the top of the stat sheet in the kills category. In a recent redemption win against Giddings, Gonzalez led the team with 10 kills.

“The growth that she has shown this year has been remarkable,” said La Grange head volleyball coach Leslie Coltrain. “We knew as a sophomore on varsity last year that she could be something special. I think she’s finally coming into her own. Her play has been extremely confident here lately, so that’s been fun to watch.” Gonzalez’s emergence for Leopard volleyball has led her to a selection for this edition’s Player of the Week.

Question: What’s your philosophy on getting a good amount of kills in a game?

Answer: “First, you have to call for the ball. You’re probably not going to get set if you’re not loud enough. You just got to get up and try your hardest to get the kill.”

Question: What kind of music do you listen to before a game?

Answer: “Any type of music that’s going to get us hype. We like to listen to Pitbull a lot. It just gets us ready to play.”

Question: If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would it be?

Answer: “I would say Michael Jordan because, in my opinion, he’s the best basketball player of all time. I’d just like to ask him about his confidence and all that stuff.”

Question: Where’s a place you like to go for activities and just to hang out?

Answer: “Probably a park because it’s nice out there and it’s pretty. A lot of things you can do there. Nice scenery.”

Question: What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Answer: “Probably Christmas because you eat a lot of good food and it’s a nice time of year. Gifts and it’s a giving holiday.”

Question: How do you think sports benefit people?

Answer: “I think it gives people a good amount of confidence, especially whenever you do good. It just helps you stay in shape and it makes you feel better as a person.”

Question: If you could travel somewhere for vacation, where would you go and what would you do?

Answer: “I really like the mountains, so probably Red River, New Mexico. We go there a lot over the summer, but I like skiing in the winter, so it’d be fun to do that.”

Question: What would you say is the best part about being a high school student?

Answer: “Definitely sports. That’s the best part for me.”

Question: Do you think pineapple goes on pizza?

Answer: “I’ve had it once before and I actually really liked it. So, sure.”

Question: What’s your biggest objective as a member of the volleyball team?

Answer: “Just to be ready at practices and be ready for the games. Just to hype my team up and make sure that we stay on task.”

Gonzalez’s leadership skills play a key role for La Grange volleyball as the Leopards aim to finish the season strong in district play and postseason.
