Navasota vs. La Grange

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: La Grange

Records: LG is 3-3 overall and 0-1 in district. Navasota is 2-4 and 0-1.

Of Note: Two teams in desperate need of a win to get back in the playoff race face off this week. The Rattlers are coming off a 50-28 loss to Smithville, their third loss in a row. Senior quarterback Ja’mar Jessie (who passed for 2,182 yards a year ago) threw for 75 yards and ran for 106 in last week’s game before being sidelined with an injured hamstring. La Grange star Bravion Rogers was injured early last week in a 56-21 loss to Cuero and his status for this game is uncertain.

Last meeting: Navasota beat La Grange 42-21 last year as Darius Randle ran for four touchdowns.

Up Next: La Grange plays at Gonzales next week.

Schulenburg at Weimar

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Weimar

Records: Schulenburg is 3-4 overall and 0-1 in district. Weimar is 2-5 and 0-1.

Of Note: This amounts to a must-win game for Schulenburg if they want to make the playoffs. The Shorthorns come into this rivalry game after a 33-7 loss to Flatonia last week in the district opener for both teams. Statistically, Schulenburg matched Flatonia’s output in that game – except in finding the endzone. Weimar, meanwhile, also had trouble last week, falling to Ganado 55-7. Offense has been problematic for both teams this season.

Last meeting: Weimar beat Schulenburg 27-12 last year as quarterback Joey Ramirez ran for a TD, threw for a TD and returned an interception for a touchdown. The Shorthorns didn’t score until the 4th quarter of that game.

Up next: Schulenburg hosts Ganado next week.

Flatonia at Shiner

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Flatonia

Records: Flatonia is 3-2 overall and 1-0 in district Shiner is 6-0 overall and 0-0 in district.

Of Note: For the second time this season, Flatonia will host a No. 1-ranked team, but the Bulldogs are hoping this one goes better than when No. 1-ranked Mart visited (a 31-0 loss). Shiner could be even tougher. The undefeated Comanches have outscored opponents 214-51 this season so far. The defending state champs are led by the Brooks brothers (Dalton’s got offers from Alabama, UT and A&M, and Douglas had offers from U of H and UTSA) ... Flatonia is coming off a 33-7 victory over Schulenburg as QB Fidel Venegas ran for three touchdowns and threw for one score.

Last meeting: Shiner beat Flatonia 49-0 last year.

Up next: Flatonia is off next week and then plays Oct. 29 at Weimar.
