Flatonia at Nixon-Smiley

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: at Nixon-Smiley Records: Both teams are 1-1.

Of Note: Nixon-Smiley started the season with a 48-27 win over San Antonio Christian, but lost last week to Three Rivers 31-20. Nixon-Smiley got 232 yards on the ground in that game, but struggled to throw the ball, completing just two passes with an interception. The Mustangs are a 3A team and run mostly a Slot-T offense. They went 4-6 last season but return 10 offensive and seven defense starters from a year ago. Flatonia, meanwhile, can really throw the football, with senior QB Fidel Venegas completing 60-percent of his passes.

Last week Flatonia lost 35-14 to a very good Hallettsville team, though that game was closer than the final score indicated. The Bulldogs actually led 14-13 in the third quarter. Jaidyn Guyton scored both touchdowns, one on a run and one on a blocked kick return of 81 yards. After this game Flatonia hosts defending state finalist Falls City next week.

Last Meeting: The Bulldogs last played Nixon-Smiley in 2013 with the Mustangs winning 28-14.
